SELF magazine's 2009 Healthy Beauty Awards

Luxe apothetique has quite a few products that made it onto the list of SELF's

Every year SELF magazine tracks down beauty products that made their debut during the past year and then has readers and staff score each product on scent, texture, ease of use, packaging, and effectiveness, so the stakes were pretty high!

SELF readers said "It left my skin bright and soft. A tiny drop is all you need."

Best Body Wash: Burt's Bees Fabulously Fresh Peppermint & Rosemary Body Wash
"It made my skin feel cool and clean."

Best Mattifying Powder: Jane Iredale Brush-Me Matte
"It goes on creamy and light but doesn't cake at all," said readers, and the packaging "is great for tossing in your bag for quick, on-the-go touch-ups."

Best Thickening Mascara: Stila Convertible Mascara
SELF readers loved this "smudgeproof" mascara's two brushes for "fattening every lash."

Best Volumizing Shampoo: Kerastase Bain Desensitive GL Shampoo
The readers also loved this shampoo for "hydrating while adding body- a hard balance to achieve-without leaving my roots greasy."
Luxe has tons of amazing beauty products (we think SELF missed a few of our favorites because they have been around longer than a year) so come by and our staff can help you pick out the perfect products to make you that much more gorgeous!

Kristen Bell loves Phillip Lim

I noticed a picture the other day of Kristen Bell wearing a Phillip Lim trapeze top, and while she looked cute I couldn't help but think of the way cuter skirt we have here at luxe apothetique in the same pattern!

And as the weather heats up, I have been noticing a lot of cute statement skirts with tank tops. The look is casual but more stylish than shorts and a T-shirt, and I am loving that everyone is wearing them with flats.

This skirt with a grey tank would be so cute with sandals or ballet flats, and perfect for the hot Texas weather we've been having!

Pick of the Day

Diane von Furstenburg dresses!

If you're on the hunt for some amazing dresses to wear this season, Diane von Furstenburg is the way to go. You could wear her designs to a cocktail party or a day on the beach with flip flops and still feel put together!

Here at luxe we've been stocking up on some of the newest silhouettes, like the babydoll t-shirt styles, that are flattering on just about everyone. Most importantly, Diane von Furstenburg dresses are just comfortable. You feel so pretty when you put one on, but casual and relaxed like you could wear these all day sightseeing or just lounging around the house.

My biggest problem is trying to pick just one. I need all of them in my closet!

Tone It Down With OPI

With all of the bright colors that pop up in the spring fashion collections, it can be fun to buck the trend a little by adding a darker polish to your nails!

It gives an interesting contrast and can look very fashion-forward when you pair it with pastels or an all-white ensemble. You don't have to wear only pale tones just because it's spring!

Some of my favorite polishes came out last year when the France Collection by OPI made its debut. The picture above doesn't do the colors justice. You Don't Know Jacques! is a beautiful dusty purple color I wear and get compliments on all the time, and Eiffel for This Color is a deep, dark red/brown that instantly glams up any outfit you put on.

And since I wouldn't do dark polish on both my hands and feet during spring, Tickle My France-y is the perfect light pink to wear as a compliment to any of the other, darker shades.

The best part is that luxe apothetique has the entire collection!

Gwyneth Paltrow's Picks for Spring

I'm still not quite sold on Gwyneth Paltrow's new lifestyle website, GOOP, but I am definitely in love with her wardrobe staples section!

In a recent post, Gwyneth went over her list of spring must-haves. One of her top picks was a nautical striped print that she calls a "classic French t-shirt." Luxe apothetique has a version by Marc Jacobs with a fun twist on the style that "looks right in spring year after year." I would pair mine with pointy black flats or even some of the new gladiators we're seeing everywhere for a pulled together, on-trend look!

If the though of wearing a jumpsuit makes you cringe, then you just haven't seen the new one from Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent. It's classy enough to wear on a night out instead of a dress if you're looking for a good alternative!

Gwyneth put her own spin on the trend, noting that jumpsuits "are making a comeback in a big way." And if a black one isn't adventurous enough for you, luxe also has a  green jumpsuit by Rory Beca that might be more your taste! Add some brown gladiators and chunky jewelry, and you have an entire outfit!

Distressed and boyfriend jeans are still really popular this season. Gwyneth didn't mention them on the website, but she really didn't have too. Anything goes with them (except maybe jumpsuits). And we just got in some new Current/Elliots that I can't wait to have in my closet!

Be Beach Ready, Minus the Wrinkles!

This product is Oprah-approved!

Whether you're looking for a realistic looking glow without the sun damage, or you just can't wait to get started on your summer tan, Tan Towels are the way to go. These convenient napkin-sized towels are perfect for packing in your vacation bag!

They are made to match  your skin tone and can be used on your face.  With towels ranging from fair to dark, there is one for every skin tone.  Oprah magazine recommends them for their smell (or lack thereof). You aren't the only one that hates that faux-tan smell!

Luxe apothetique has individual packets of the towelettes for first timers, as well as boxes for those of you who already know and love them!

Elizabeth and James is thriving

The New York Daily News has just written a piece in their fashion column about Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen's successful upscale line Elizabeth and James, which we just happen to carry at luxe apothetique

Most celeb-owned brands haven't been doing so well lately.  Lauren Conrad has put her designs "on hiatus" for the time being, Mandy Moore's Mblem line of clothing has folded, and Victoria Beckham's overpriced jeans have become somewhat of a joke.  The economy is in bad shape, but so may be their designs.

But the economy hasn't seemed to affect Mary Kate and Ashley's Elizabeth and James.  Ken Downing, a senior VP fashion director, calls the line a "bright spot" for retailers, explaining,  "The twins have really done an excellent job on making the product a star."

Lots of celebrities love it just as much as we do at luxe apothetique!

At luxe, we have gorgeous pieces from their new spring line, like must-have maxi dresses and ombre plaid shirts that will look super cute with shorts over the summer!

We also have other lines that are similar to Elizabeth and James and are still big sellers here at luxe, like Rory Becca, Milly, and Rachel Pally. New shipments come in about three times per week, so check back with us every so often!

Pick of the Day

Sometimes an at-home manicure is all I have time for (although when time is no issue I'll pamper myself and just book a manicure or pedicure right here at luxe's spa.)

My cuticles have always been a little dry and flaky when I've done my own nails. But cutting your cuticles to get that professional look is never the answer, girls. Not only will it hurt, but it will only look worse in a matter of days and can even cause infections!

So I thought I'd try the cuticle remover from the lippmann collection. It looks like a nail polish, but inside is a miniature dropper. Two drops of this stuff and a cuticle pusher later, my nails looked just as good as if I had paid to get them done!

Vogue magazine also fell in love with this product and wrote about it in their 2009 beauty guide...

(p.s. it costs a little less at luxe!)
